  • Render server setup specialist required

Anyone know of a good experienced consultant to help fix the following problem?

We have 2 Dell R815’s with 4 AMD Opteron 6238’s and 32GB Ram. Running Max 2012 64bit on Win Server 2008 with Vray 1.5.

We feel the render times are somewhat under-whelming and would like a consultant to look over our hardware solution/setup to make sure we are running it in the best possible configuration for rendering with Vray.

We were expecting about 200% improvement on our old system but currently we are only getting a 100% improvement.

The consultant would be based in London and available within the next 2 weeks of this post.

Please email me at rueben_derrick (at) gensler.com

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Vray doesn't support quad socket systems very well. Directly from Vlado in this thread:

Whatever you decide, just make sure you *do not* get a quad-processor AMD machine, they do not have a good performance for rendering at the moment. Single or dual-processor is ok, as far as we could test here.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
One possible workaround would be to split each quad server into two Virtual servers using VMware or the like and run Vray using DR. The performance gains won't be linear as you had hoped for but it would be one way of salvaging your systems.

Until Vray is recompiled and optimized for MP you won't ever get any use out of those extra sockets.
