I need some expert advice - here's my circumstances: My main business is architectural design. However, I have a backlog of renderings that need to be done and a large, steady work log. I am seeing the need to make an investment to increase my productivity. One more thing: I am not, by any means, an expert in Max/Vray. I have some pretty decent results, but it takes me a while, along with a lot of reading in the forums.
My current workstation is a high-end dual xeon six core that I built. When I am running a rendering, it is pretty much unusable as a workstation except for email, web, etc. I am considering building a high-end overclocked 3930k or 3960x as my workstation and benefit from the increase in performance in REVIT and in setting up scenes and quick renders. I will turn my current dual xeon workstation into a render node. I have a few spare parts, and I am considering making 1 or 2 more i7 nodes. Here are my questions:
1) Is anyone using their rendering nodes as a V-Ray RT preview to increase productivity? If so, please tell me what your set-up is and how it has affected your productivity. (In case anyone is wondering, I am not currently considering the GPU method for RT, because my scenes are quite large. Although, I could see myself using GPU's in these nodes if RT matures enough, along with a solution to the GPU memory limitations.)
2) How do you manage your nodes?
I welcome all suggestions... perhaps there are some alternative solutions that I am not considering?
Thank you in advance!
**EDIT: My bad.. I was staying in the VRAY for Max area... and did not even see the entire VRAY RT section of the forum. Thanks.
