  • Best settings/config for GTX480 based machines with Max 2013

We have recently upgraded to Max2013 (from Max2009) and are having major display performance issues and hangs constantly. I wondered if anyone has the same card and has decent performance, as we are shocked at how bad this is and are really struggling.

Our systems are i7 2700k, 16GB RAM, GTX 480 cards ( with driver 296.10 installed - I realise an update has just been released, but I am doubtful if this will make any difference) and we are running W7x64. We have SSD drives as our main disks, and I have put the paging file on our 'D' drive which is a good quality SATA drive that is being accelerated by on on-board Intel Rapid Store SSD drive. All the windows visual effects are turned off, apart from showing thumbnails instead of icons.

Overall viewport performance is awful. Menu boxes and dialogue boxes disappearing or turning white, hangs when we click on the material editor (slate or basic)...the list just goes on.

We were using the default Nitrous driver, but decided to fall back to Direct3D to see if that helps. I can't be sure if it has or it hasn't - we still get awful performance.

These aren't the latest generation of gfx cards of course, but they aren't that old either.

Is there a list of things I should check or change to optimise my setup? In Max2009, things were fine. We have the exact same setup on 3 different workstations.
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket
