  • Firepro for RT

    Hello:

I'm buying parts for my new WS, i was going for a Firepro V5900 or even V7900 but have doubt if these cards are compatible with Vray RT.
Or for the contrary i will need to go for a gamin Nvidia card with CUDA.
I know RT is Open CL, but want to be sure of the compatibilitie and also performanceod these cards agains GTX cards like 670.
I gues i have another option that is use V5900 for display viewport only and trow another or even a couple more GTX just for RT computational tasks. Is this kind of setup possible? can we tell RT to use the power of some card to render and leqve the CPU and other card for simultaneous work in the diewport and so.

    Hope i make myself clear.
    Cheers.

If you plan to use V-Ray RT GPU then for the moment it would best to go with an nVidia card. As far as I know, the guys at AMD are looking into support for V-Ray RT GPU, but for the moment it's not there.

Thank you for hte fast reply.

So, if i have a V5900 for display and besides taht a GTX on the machine, will RT use the GTX for GPU or this is not possible? i mean, can it automatically detect a suitable GPU to use?

Yes you can specivy which GPU device will be used in RT settings.

You can specify which GPU to use for OpenCL rendering; however we haven't really tested a configuration with GPUs from different vendors plugged into the same machine. If you can test this before purchasing, it would be best.

I guess a 20$ Nvidia and ATI card should do the trick if u dont want to get in toroubles with big cards!

              OK, thank you.

Unforunately I can't test it before I buy.
Anyone out there with this kind of setup the input will be grately apreciated.

              Cheers.
