I thought that I saw my question answered somewhere but I cannot find it now, so I apologize if that's the case (and if someone can point me to that post I'd appreciate it). I understand that I can have two graphic cards installed and use one of them for vray RT. What I intend on doing is getting an nvidia quadro 4000 in order to run the displays, and a GTX 670 to use for RT. I've read elsewhere that if I have two different cards, then the driver control will be taken over by the lower quality GTX card and I will lose the full functionality of the 4000. (I've already read here that I will need a dummy plug for the GTX) I've contacted nvidia, but all they could tell me is that their official opinion is to not use more than one card no matter what, so obviously they've been no help. Has anyone done this? thanx in advance.
A bit of updated info is that in spite of what the nvidia tech told me, nvidia not only supports but promotes using a quadro and tesla card in the same computer using their "maximus" technology. It seems like I should be able to get away with my combination, but other sources seem conflicted. I think I'll just gamble with it and see what happens, if I don't get any responses here. I'll get back to you when I get my new computer.
Ok final update. After even more research, and finally finding someone who tried what I wanted to do -the word is no go. Do not combine these two cards. So at this point as soon as I get a little extra cash I think I'll build another computer just for GPU rendering and network the two together.
(I'm not sure how to say that this "thread" is complete)
