  • If GTX580 end of life, then which recommended?

    Hi all

If the GTX580 3GB becomes end of life, or for some other reason "unavailable", then which card would you recommend? Vlado mentioned in another thread that the 580 is currently still "king of the hill", so then after this, would you bite the bullet with price and go Quadro 5000 or would you bite the bullet with performance and go GTX 6xx? How far is the GTX 7xx from being launched?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

There are rumours that the 780 will arrive this March, but they could be just rumours.

Absolutely! Finally larger, detailed scenes will fit in GPU RAM and we can start utilising GPU-enhanced rendering properly. I've been waiting for a card like this to come along for a long time. The Quadros just don't represent good enough value for money for me at this point. Could be very interesting indeed.

We recently rendered a full production arch viz scene, 58 million polygons in total (though admittedly, many of those were instances), trees, Forest Pro; all fitting nicely on a 6 GB Tesla card and there was still plenty of GPU RAM left. It looked quite impressive

Interestingly the Titan doesn't seem to be doing amazingly well in some of the OpenCL tests. It's better than the 680 but no match for the 7970. I wonder if this is just because nVidia hasn't been sufficiently optimized for OpenCL and when we'll see some CUDA benchmarks.

Also I wonder since all the reviews are commenting on it's high price if we'll see a drop soon. I would like 6gb of ram
