  • why alpha isn't saved with file?

Am I doing something wrong or when production rendering with RT the alpha isn't saved with tif file (include on). I tried using vray frame buffer save file option but that vray isn't saving at all frames.

Is this the CPU or the GPU version?

      I used GPU CUDA.

Hm, works fine for me with PNGs, I have to test TIFF, but I can't imagine what would be the difference.

        Best regards,

the alpha isn't saved with tif file
You need to make sure that the tif format is set to 16-bit Color and the "Store Alpha Channel" option is enabled.

I have just been looking at this and I have the same issue. VFB will not auto save any files and 3ds Max will save out the RGB and alpha, but the alpha is just pure white. However in the VFB it is shown as correct.

Using GPU mode V-Ray Version 2.40.04

It works fine for me - would it be possible to give us step-by-step instructions how to replicate this issue ?

                    Hi James,

Thank you for preparing а demo video about those RT Alpha issue.
Actually there are few bugs/limitations for the RT CPU/GPU set as production renderer at the moment.
*) Alpha works only with GPU engine for now.
*) Save image from VFB rollout doesn't work - Already reported to the developers.
*) VrayRT GPU doesn't export alpha channel via 3DSMax Render Output - To workaround this, you could use the VFB option to save the Tiff image with alpha included.
Hope those issue to be fixed soon.

However, if i missed something from your demonstration video, please let me know.

                      .
How do I save out the alpha via the VFB as per point B if it doesn't work as per point A?

                        Hi James,
With "VFB option to save the Tiff image with alpha included. " i meant the save option (diskette button) available in the Frame buffer.
Unfortunately this approach will work well for stills only.

Ah, I thought as much. Thank you for the clarification.
