  • RT GPU + multisub (Vray 2.40.03)

    Hello,

I'm using Vray GPU + Override mtl with a big Multi/Sub, for now more than 70 materials, but need close to 120 materials...

I've got no problem using RTGPU, but when switching to RTGPU (cuda or OpenCL) I've got a vray.dmp file and it stopped after : Moving Map channels transferred...

When reducing the Multi/Sub, no more problem...

Any reason ? any clue ?

    Best regards...

Can you get me a scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com?

I'll send you a simplier version (because of NDA).

Seems to be an 2.4 issue...

      3DSMax + Vray 2.4.03 + Window 7 + 580GTX + 314.07 : Problem
      3DSMax + Vray 2.3.02 + Window 7 + 580GTX + 314.07 : No more issue... Strange...

        Vlado,

        Just a simple question :

I notice that GPU is really faster than CPU, but when moving a light, CPU is more responsive, same when moving objects.

Is this a technological issue or is there a way to speed up GPU responsiveness ?

        Best regards...

Thanks, will fix it. It is not strange at all, we did a lot of changes to 2.4 to support instances, so some bugs may have sneaked in

We did a few changes to the CPU engine to make light updates much faster, but we didn't have time to port the change to the GPU version. We will get to that too.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Nice too know

If you add support to instances, you may have a look to shader instance. There are no object instance in the scene I've sent, but some shaders instances.

I'll try 2x580GTX on monday, then will have to make a decision about changing lighters workstation graphic cards to dual something (like 690GTX).

            Best regards.

After a quick test I found the cause - mapped IOR in one or more materials , try your scene without them.

Anyway the problem is reported and maybe soon it will be fixed.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Thanks I just found the same

Hope to get a fix soon, fort me it's more easier to control some values with vray color.

                Best regards.
