  • Mixing different video cards on the same computer for VRay RT

Is it possible to utilize two different generations of NVidia cards on the same computer for RT rendering?

I have a Quadro 5000 for display and I want to add a Titan or GTX580 for rendering.

I've tried searching the forum threads and all over the web, but I can't find any definitive answers for this.

In VRay RT, it seems like all of the benchmarks that have dual card setups are for two of the same card, i.e. 2 GTX 580 cards, etc...

I've seen Arion screen shots that show mixed-card setups:

Any responses would be greatly appreciated!!

You can use mixed cards; you can see on the benchmark page that there are such configurations (f.e. gtx 460 + gtx 560 and gtx 480 + tesla).

I think the main reason that most people with multiple GPU setups are using 2 of the same card is for compatibility with SLI/crossfire for gaming, where it's crucial that the cards are the same (or almost the same). As Vlado said, you can mix cards for RT.

Perfect. Thanks for the information, guys.

I'm still a little fuzzy about the details for the driver setup.

Can I have a different driver for each card, or if I install a GeForce, would that driver be applied to my Quadro as well, esentially turning it into a way overpriced GeForce?

        Thanks!

You can only have one driver installed, so it must be able to handle all GPUs that you have.
