  • Quadro k4000 vs GTX 680

Hi guys, Im not a gamer at all, i use mostly CAD and ADOBE for all my work, my question is how well does RT play with the quadro k4000 vs the GTX 680, anyone can help me sort this out?
What I would love is to use a quadro for display purpouses, and 2 or 3 gtx 670 for gpu tasks. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks

Anything is possible if you want to figure it out.

Quadro vs Game card is a debate that never gets a clear winner. Ultimately is comes down to what type of work that you do. In my company, we do lots of work with huge data sets and engineering data in Max. Unfortunately, my GTX680 didn't have enough power to make these scenes workable in the states we needed them. Mostly due to the lack of hardware accelerated wireframe. So we have moved everyone over to Quadro K5000s. For us, this is a HUGE improvement in the scenes and files that we work with on a regular basis. The quadro also allows us to use some hardware acceleration in Adobe apps. (Improvement is dependent on the artist, some like it, some don't.)

Now, if your scenes are not quite as large, I find that the GTX 680 does a great job and the difference is relatively small.

As for GPU performance: more cuda cores the better. (In most cases)

My main rule of thumb I've always lived by is this: never mix video cards that need different drivers, you are just asking for problems. (This may not be as important now, haven't tested it out fully in a year or so.) So mixing Quadro and GTX cards may or may not work well together with the different drivers needed for each.

From what I remember when trying the same it is even worse, if a Quadro driver sense that there is a game card driver it will regress down to the same level. Nvidia obviously wants you to use Teslas for rendering.

Same goes for the AMD cards too. We recently tried a FireGL with a Radeon with very poor results. They each have their own market and they would like to keep it that way.

Alright! Thanks for the info guys, I guess Ill go for a gamer card atm, and save up for a quadro k5000 and a tesla ........... or maybe not.... still too much cash to invest in that setup....
