  • NEW WORKSTATION - Intel Core i7-3930K (budget: 200 euro)

    Hi guys,

I am going to buy new workstation soon. Budget around 2000 euro.

Here is what I came up so far:
    CPU - Intel Core i7-3930K 3,2 GHz s. 2011 Box
    COOLER - Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
    MB - MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) Intel X79 LGA 2011 (5xPCX/DZW/GLAN/SATA3/USB3/RAID/DDR3/SLI/CROSSFIRE)
    DDRAM - 2 x Patriot Viper 3 DDR3 2x8GB 2400MHz CL10 XMP PV316G240C0K
GPU - Nvidia GeForce GTX 770
    SSD - Kingston SSD V300 SATA3 2.5" 240GB 7mm SV300S37A/240G
    HDD - 2 x WD Red WD30EFRX 3TB sATA III 64MB
    PSU - Seasonic X-Series X-750 KM3 (SS-750KM F3) 80Plus Gold 750W
    CASE - SilentiumPC Regnum L50 (RG-L50)
    OS - WINDOWS 8

    Few most important points:
    1. I am not going to use GPU for final productions (I do 3D arch visualisations). I just want the graphic card to handle good performance with displaying some big scenes in 3D max (a lot of vegetaion, cars, Forest Pro, 10-20 milinos of polygons etc.) So my question comes: is there any signicant difference between GeForce GTX 770 and 780? Because there is pretty significant difference in price .
    2. DDR. I choose Patriot Viper with 2,4GHz speed but kingstone 1,6 GHz is much cheaper. Will I notice any difference while working in 3D max + V-ray?
    3. COOLER. Of course I am going to overclock my 3930K (but I am not going to go for any extreme values). Will NH-D14 work fine for that?

And if you have some other thoughts to share I will be glad to hear them

... OK now I noticed that I skiped one "0" in the title (should be 2.000 euro not 200) ... but I really hope this mistake will NOT become main subject of replies

GPU should be fine however I do suggest evga 780.
DDR - not sure... but I would get 32 gb rather than 16
      Noctua should be fine...
HDD wise I would suggest SSD Ssamsung pro 840 if I'm not wrong...

        nice machine !
Careful, i cought same config with 32GB and a windows 7 family, wich is locked to...16GB !! huge mistake, so be sure you got a pro windows to get your full 32GB.
I've here a 3930k running 24/24 at 4.4Ghz with a carbide 500 case and a NhD14 noctua cooler. 73° max when rendering. 40% overclocking is a must on this processor.

if your cpu never go beyond 75°, no worries. just like standard cpu.
