  • Titan power consumption

    Hi,

We are building new workstations and need advice on how big PSU we should install when using titans cards. We tried some Power Supply Calculators but the return very different results in power consumptions.

We are planning to start with 2 Titan cards and with option for 4 cards later on.

Anyone has 2 or 4 cards installed and know the power consumption or maybe have an idea of what to expect?

    Specs.

Mobo: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme (EATX)
    CPU: i7 3930K (OC to 4,5 - 4,7 GhZ)
    Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H110
    RAM: 8x8 GB Corsair Vengeance
Disk 1: 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro Series
Disk 2 1 TB WD VelociRaptor 10000 rpm
Graphic card: 2x eVGA GeForce GTX TITAN Superclocked Signature
    Case: Corsair Carbide Series 330R

I have exact same mobo/cpu/ram setup as your specs. And I'm using 4x GTX 580 (power consumption is similar to GTX Titan). Everything is powered by Antec HCP 1200. So I think quality PSU with minimum of 1200W will be enough.

Be weary of the 10k rpm raptors over the years I had 5-6 drives like that, all failed after 1-3 years approximately, though they were under rma, I got new ones but those eventually all failed as well, not a good drive for long term use.

        I have a similar setup running on a ASUS Rampage IV Formula with (4) Titans. I killed (4) PSU's running quad VGA's. (1) EVGA SR 1200W and (3) EVGA Supernova's 1500W.

I now have a MaxRevo 1500W and has been running like a champ.

          Thanks for the feedback guys!

I also found a Youtube clip that shows OC with 4x Titans and they are using about 1300 watt - so to be on the safe side we have choosen the Lepa 1600W. MaxRevo 1500W was out of stock

@Dimitry. Sorry to hear about your experience with the Raptor disks. We have them in all the machines here and have not yet had an error with them.
