Quadro & Geforce in one machine?

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to find relevant info on this subject for weeks now. I have scoured different forums and blogs, some people claim that a Quadro and a Geforce card can co-exist in one computer. I have found posts that describe how to install the drivers, and this video seems to indicate that it is possible:

But I have not heard/seen any real evidence which proves that this setup would work in respects to any 3D software.

My goal is get a Quadro K4000 to run the Maya viewport and a GTX Titan run RT. Has anyone combined a Quadro with a Titan sucessfully? (Or any other Geforce for that matter?)

This post mentions a "cheater plug" to use in this situation - but I can't find any info on this method:

I have used gtx 690 and Quadro k6000 and they worked pretty well.

Thanks for your reply, how did you install the drivers? This the method I was referring to:

"Install Quadro Driver full installation via Wizard. Decompress Geforce Driver latest version but do not run Wizard install. Manually update Geforce Card driver via Device manager by pointing to Nvidia/Geforce folder Launch Nvidia Control Panel and set the GPU Acceleration to Geforce card only."

Sorry, I don't remember exactly, but most likely I've installed drivers for 690, then I've put in the quadro gpu, and finally I've installed drivers for it (all from the nvidia web page, it worked for me just straight forward).

I have a Quadro 4000 and would like to add a Titan for Rt using 3ds max
Did you use the driver install method you mentioned?
Any other tips?

I'd be interested to hear about this too. I have a Quadro 4000 but am interested in adding a GTX780Ti as well to help viewport/RT performance when needed.

To be honest, I think the safest step would be to take out the Quadro altogether and just have the 780Ti, but Dell don't strictly 'support' GTX cards in my workstation, so if I had any issues, they would likely say 'not interested' and leave me to sort it out myself.

Hi All.
I have posted about this on the Mcneel forum at http://discourse.mcneel.com/ before, but will mention here that I have been using a mixed Quadro/Geforce system for about 2 years. (Quadro 6000 + GTX660).
I had no issues and to install I did the following:
1. Fit the Geforce Card on it's own and install Geforce Drivers.
2. Fit the Quadro Card and Install the OEM Driver 340.66.
I have dual screens with main screen connected to the Quadro and 2nd Screen connected to the GTX660.
Note: I would avoid the other Quadro Drivers eg. Performance Driver as they are not as 'stable' as the OEM driver.

Keep in mind that for RT to work, all the cards might have to be the same GPU architecture (i.e. all should be Fermi, or Kepler or Maxwell). I remember having issues when mixing architectures. That was a while ago though, may be they fixed the drivers since then.

As no one wants to buy my Quadro K4000. I'm looking at the option of a Quadro - Geforce combo too. Vlado is it possible to make the quadro run my 3dsmax viewports and the geforce run vray RT?

Yes, of course. You can choose which GPUs to be used for CUDA from the nVidia control panel.

From my experience (running a K5000 as the Windows 7 display card and 5 780 Tis), 3dsmax has little problem dealing with them all. I've only installed the Geforce drivers so this does does conflict with other Adobe programs when all the 780s are rendering. So I will also try the method mentioned of installing both sets of drivers.

Vlado -> In regards to selecting the GPU to use for rendering, is there a way to do this within the host application (3dsmax) directly? With iRay this allows me to open several instances of 3dsmax and assign GPUs as I see fit. At the moment, this is a pivitol part of my workflow and as such a purchasing factor for new software (as I'm currently evaluating Vray).

I think you have to chose the GPUs you want to use through the :
"Select OpenCL devices for V-Ray RT GPU" program

C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 2014 for x64\bin\ocldeviceselect.exe

I know it's supposed to be for opencl but it's actually for cuda as well.
