  • Video card failed, need suggestions

It seems inevitable, that at some point these high end cards will burn out. Mine did today, served me well for 5 years. So now the question arises what card to get. I am considering something like gtx 780, but I thought if any one had better ideas I would be glad to have them chime in.

    Thanks!

I would go with something like the EVGA GTX 770 w/ 4GB RAM. That seems to be about the sweet spot for price/performance. They have three different version of the card with various stages of overclocking. Good amount of onboard ram will be beneficial for all GPU rendering too.

Seems like the 780 ti is damn good for RT speed wise but limited for memory, otherwise the original titan is cheaper now - slightly slower than the 780 ti but more memory so you can use bigger scenes. Might be enough for a lot of your furniture setups?

Lol. I honestly don't rely on gpu for the shading/texturing. For now its just a nice toy. But Im positive it will eventually become the main tool, but imo not for a while.

ended up getting evga 780 ti 4gb

but learned that my board is pci e 2.0 and the card is 3.0, should I expect significant drop in performance? Also, do I need to update bios? I read in titan manual that you should...but this isn't titan.

          Thanks!

I was told 1-2% max (i'm in the same boat) and that pci slots were way ahead of what cards need. when significantly more powerful cards come out you would.

So now there is a new issue, when the card is under load it emits a single continuous beep, wondering if its a warning for power? quick google reveals people have this issue when the system is plugged through ups. My psu is 750w should be enough otherwise.
