  • 2x29" Wide LCDs

It's time to change my 2 old 24inch Dells to new brothers. I was thinking about going this time for 3x monitor setup but I think it might be a bit of overkill especially form energy saving stand point.
I saw Dell U2913WM wide baby with 2560 x 1080 res. What about putting two such babies on desk ? Anyone experience such setup on daily use? I'm only interested in AH-IPS panels.
This U2913WM will consume 180W while new 24" Dells will eat around 200W and with 3 of those . So I think two wide might be sweet spot. I'm just not sure how I will feel with loosing 120 pixels in height resolution.

Or maybe go with 2x 27 Dells U2713HM with 2560x1440?

I have two 24" ASUS monitors, which is working great. And, for the price, you can't go wrong.

I've seen one member of this forum that has a similar setup with what you just described. He uses three monitors in vertical mode and it looks slick/efficient.
There's some pretty decent three monitor desk mounts out there.

I used three monitors and I have to say that it was very handy. However it comes at the potential cost of graphics card performance.
You might be best off driving one or two of those spare monitors (for browsing, panels, etc.) off an inexpensive secondary card.

I have two 30" ultrasharps at home and it's a really enjoyable setup. I frequently have my main app open on one and a couple of others on the second.

I would NEVER sacrifice resolution. Period!

If I could have the 2560x1440 in a 24" monitor, that would be perfect! The extra resolution is what makes the jump to a bigger monitor worth it, IHMO.

i'd also prefer that res with a 24. A coworker has 2 30's and i cant stand them, it's just the size of the wall. Whenever i've used his machine i find myself doing everything on the one monitor and leaving the other blank, it's too big to keep looking around for parts of my interface and I actually have to turn my head to be able to see everything - which i dont have to do with smaller screens.
If you kept one for max and one for photoshop instead of using them as one big screen it wouldnt be as bad, but then what's the point - just use alt-tab.

The 27" is great, but it requires me to turn my head to see all the way to the extents of the two side monitors. I tend to sit closer to the monitors, so I have to turn almost 70-80 degrees to the left and right to see the edges. The 24" monitors were almost perfect, size wise, but could have used more pixel density. It would have made things smaller, but I'm okay with that. I can get more dialogue boxes on screen and less scrolling through menus. IMHO.

                    NOW YOU'RE TALKING!!

Those are VERY tempting! The only problem would be be finding a video card to drive three of them without having to go multiple video cards. Though, putting two GTX 780 cards would cover display and GPU rendering. Kill two birds with one stone! Hahaha
