What is this thing and could it be used for vray and phoenix sim?

It is sold in the cpu section but it looks like a gpu. The esoterical descrition seams to be trying to say that this can be used to compute anything a cpu can compute. Could it be used to accelerate vray cpu rendering and could this be used to accelerate PhoenixFD simulation?

They say this:

"An empirical performance and programmability study has been performed by researchers.[46] The authors claim that to achieve high performance Xeon Phi still needs help from programmers and that merely relying on compilers with traditional programming models is still far from reality."

In other words forget about this monster!

It was discussed in other threads already. Reading about this the first time it sounded promising but unfortunateley so far no success. :-/

As far as I remember Vlado said, it's not really coming out well due to some kind of bug or bad behavior in the Intel SDK or kernel...

Not sure about phoenix, might be a point.
