  • Used HP Z820 dual E5-2643 CPU's (3.30Ghz)
    3.40.02
    Embree on
    1min 39sec

    I just "upgraded" the CPU's to dual E52670 2.6Ghz (for $58ea - they're really cheap on eBay)
    1min 1 sec

Paying $116 to go from 16 threads to 32 and that kind of performance gain is pretty huge IMO. I'm still not in the same league with some of the recent posts, but still, pretty exciting knowing that this is only a $1200 rig.

Shouldn't it be quicker than my dual 2696v3 ??

            I'm running on 72 cores versus your 80 on V4 ??

                  • The test scene is long overdue for an update to something more complex. Most of the time now is spent on loading the scene for rendering instead of actual render and a 5 second difference in results means squat for comparing cpus. I can get a few second variation every time i press the render button

Agreed, plus a new thread. I was wondering too about posting a link to a Google Doc spreadsheet for users to enter their data (CPU, Settings, etc.)

The same as what I did for the GPUs?

Was that a Google Doc? If so, then yes, I think that would be great! It helps to see what's the best cost per Ghz. or per core. I think that's what you had done before?
