  • XEON vs. i7 again - TESTING INTERIOR SCENE

    Hi guys,

Some of you might say that it was discussed so many times before, but I believe that still not enough
The more we test the better understanding we have about how Vray works with i7 and Xeon CPUs.

So I did this pretty simple interior scene for CPU testing.

    Here's what I got:

    Time: 9 min. 16s.
    CPU: 3930K (no OC)
    Vray: 3,0
    MAX: 2014
    Win7

And if you have i7 or Xeon please join the test too!

Testing scene here (max 2014 Vray 3.0)

This is really important to turn off, otherwise it's not really a meaningful comparison of anything.

          You are right guys.
But please do not change anything else in the settings (except turning off bitmap paging) ... otherwise the comparison is also useless

So lets do it one more time. Now in a proper way:

            Time: 4 min. 10s.
            CPU: 3930K (no OC)
            Vray: 3,0
            MAX: 2014
            Win: 7
            Bitmap paging: OFF!

To avoid missunderstandings I have also updated the scene (link in post#1)
            Bitmap paging is OFF now.

Is Bitmap paging not off by default? I've never used it, and only seen reasons not to use it on here! And by the speed improvement its clearly not good to use. I'll put some benchmarks for a couple of blades, and workstations when I have time.

It is off by default in newer 3ds Max releases, however there were a few Max versions that had it enabled and from there it has crept up in a lot of scenes.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado
