  • GTX 7xx and 9xx on the same computer

Hi guys, I'm about to go for new a GTX 980.
Is there any issue having a GTX 780Ti and a GTX 980 on the same computer?
I know it's two different architecture and it shouldn't be mixed up, is it still the case?

We can maybe try to test this configuration here, but there is a high probability that it will not work. Let me see if we can try it out and I will let you know what happens.

    Best regards,

For those who are interested, it does work without any issue, at least for what I've tried so far.

so i do have another question on that matter. I currently own a asus gtx titan and if i wanted to add another card like 2x 970tgx would cause a problem or not ?
            Thanks.

              Well,
I do have had issues after a bit of playing around.
In fact, my 780Ti seems fried, and I'm sending it to RMA next week.
Not sure if it has any relation with the fact of adding the GTX 970.

I'll try again once I receive my 780Ti back from RMA but for the moment, I would not recommend crossing architectures.

I made a test with the Octane benchmark scene and I can see that my GTX 980 and GTX 460 render fine together. So I assume Vray is also fine with rendering on GPUs with different architectures? At least when I rendered some things with RT, Vray didn't give errors using both these cards.

It only depends on the driver - if it can support all the GPUs inside the machine, they will generally work. nVidia are dropping the support for some GPUs from time to time (in order to reduce the driver size, I guess). Lastly they've dropped the support for 9600GT series (so it stopped working together with my Titan and I had to replace it). There is list of supported GPUs that comes with every driver release (keep in mind that this list is usually per GPU type - GTX, Quadro, Tesla, etc; but if a GTX GPU is supported, it Quadro counterpart will be too - for example, if the driver supports Titan X, it will run fine with the Quadro M6000).
V-Ray will work with any number of GPUs and any mixture of architectures, as long as the driver can handle them too.
                  V-Ray fan.
