You got a link that explains that? I've been waiting for an "affordable" gpu with a proper amount of ram for ages, and this one specifically for months... Finally i can do proper work in rt gpu.

Probably what you were referring to.. I saw a post from nvidia saying the last gb is treated differently in some way.. So that would be 11gb ddr5, 1gb ddr1

Edit.. Ah i see it was referring only to the 970 lawsuit. I will assume this has the full 12gb of proper ram.

Yes I think they will not make the mistake twice.

I was definitely looking forward for this one for months, but I wonder how the 980Ti will be though.
It will be released few months after the Titan but should be slightly faster, have 8Gb and be nearly half the price.
        Bright future for GPU anyways!
We just need a good cheap solution of stack multiple gpu into nodes.
I found a dirt cheap solution to have 6 GPUs on a $500 node including all components but it would be connected in PCI 1x only.

I tried it locally here, 1x take a bit more time for loading but once it's loaded, I can't see any difference in rendering speed with 16x.

Wow thats fantastic to know. I had no idea that the bus speed only affect load times!

Yep it's been several months i'm looking into building a small GPU renderfarm so I bought few cards, a dedicated GPU case and those pci 1x riser.
I search quite a lot to find the cheapest way to building a GPU farm and I finally found all the components.
I'm just waiting for the GTX 980 Ti to come out as I think the titan (beside the Ram amount) will not be the best bang for buck

Quick small shots of my temp setup :

For me, the amount of ram outweighs the bang for buck. My jobs often eat 32gb for breakfast.. Id prefer 64. 12 is already quite tight for modern production scenes, and the ram requirements will only grow. At least a 12gb card has some kind of longevity. To be honest if they brought out a an old 600 series with 24gb I'd get that instead!

I've not upgraded my gpu for a while as I've been waiting for some card that doesn't cost 4000 dollars to come along that would render some of my scenes without immediately crashing the display driver.

Stan: would love to discuss how you setup your gpu renderfarm : how could you fit 6 gfxcard on your motherboard ? do you have 6 pci slot ? and what exactly is the pci x1 riser ?

I can't wait to get my hands on Titan X. 12GB of ram is just perfect for now.

Putting 4 of those into one station would be just perfect for rendering.

3LP: Where did you get that GPU case ?

i wonder how this will translate into RT performance.

on a related note, why on earth are amd cards not more competitive, considering the luxrender results on that page..? is it still a driver issue?

on another related note, maybe i should wait another year or so :
