  • CUDA Compatible drivers

Hiya folks - just thought I'd post a quicky about CUDA GPU RT driver compatibility.

NVidia geforce experience 352.86 WHQL driver seems to fail disastrously (980GTX tested) lots of errors reported.
NVidia geforce experience 347.09 WHQL driver works superbly. (980GTX and Titan Z tested)

I only posted this in case someone is coming onboard with RT GPU now and assumes its not working.
ChaosGrp : do you have a recommended/compatible driver list anywhere for future reference ?

    Hey,

For us on gtx 970 and titans X the drivers 350.12 are doing the trick. Earlier versions had issues with Light Cache or with Titan X.

      Thanks for that.

We use to have such list. After that we had months (or years?) without issues with the drivers, so we deprecated it.
It seems that we will have to that again, so we'll find a place for that somewhere.
In the meantime, 350.12 seems to work best so far.

Superb, thank you for the 350.12 pointer - I'll update the farm when I get a chance.

          So, thanks for the pointer.
We have added here http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3/GPU+Rendering the CUDA compatible drivers (and the one that are known to cause troubles).

As windows 10 is being pushed out and the Nvidia drivers are updated, I was just wondering what the status of RT is going to be ? re: driver version reliance.

As the new drivers cause havoc on render results (353.62 as of this post).
350.12 isn't a viable option in Windows 10 (manual install worked, but leaves OS unstable).

I understand it's no small thing to troubleshoot the driver incompatibilities, but as Windows10 is getting a good solid rollout it would be a relief to know if it's being adressed any time soon.

353.62 works fine with the latest V-Ray 3.20.03 (should be okay with 3.2 for Maya too, but I haven't test at yet).
We will update the information in the docs too. The guys are working on a better visualization of the compatible driver/V-Ray/OS, so it might take a while.

Ah, 353.62 didn't work with the latest nightley for Maya, but good to know that it's in the works.
(I assume it's the video drivers btw.. random bucket brighness issues, which are all fine on the other machines running Win7/Driver 350.12)

I didnt knew about such problems. Can you send scene to the support for investigation ?

Certainly. I'll break it down to something simpler and get rid of NDA unsafe parts first.

Firstly, let me apologise for thinking it was the drivers that were an issue in this case. I can confirm that 353.62 AND 355.60 are performing problem free, and Windows10 has had no adverse impact on VRay.

The oddity I've finally nailed down, and was solely on the Titan-Z. It would render buckets with different brightnesses and only on GPU RT.
On the 980gtx cards it rendered fine.
The problem was from the color node being fed by a gammaCorrect node. As soon as the gammaCorrect was disconnected, no further problems.

The oddity here is that is was only on the Titan-Z, so not sure if its a Maxwell/Kepler thing or dual GPU (though DR worked just fine on the 980's)

Thanks for the update. The new drivers seems to work fine with 3.20.03 for us, too.
The support guys will take a look at the issue with the different buckets.

Have you sent us the scene with the bucket discrepancy already?
