Monitors (again)

Yes, another monitor thread as I can't figure out what I want/need.

What I currently have:

-Panasonic 34" HD TV (1920x1080) (modelling)
-2 x Iiyama 24" HD (1920x1080) (all the other more color related stuff)

What is bothering me about this setup:
-2 different types of screens with different colors and sizes
-TV is really not a good thing to look at all day.

I've been reading the other thread and saw mentioning of 34 inch ultra wide screens so I went to the store the see how his is in reality, and while really nice, I can't imagine having 2 of those next to eachother, it will be just too big I think. And only one of those will not be enough. And different screens, again, no thank you.

I don't know if I want to have 3 screens again either. As for the resolution, it's a bit difficult as I read 4K 3dsMax is just a hell, I don't want to buy new monitors in a year either.

The most important thing for me are very good colors. I have a colormunki so I can calibrate once in a while. Optional is adjustable height/rotation. As for the size, I just don't know. I have a lot of screens open all the time (3dsmax, SketchUp, AutoCad, Photoshop, Winamp, Chrome,...)

As for the price; in total I don't want to spend more than €1000 (aprox 1000$). I think, it depends on quality/sustainability/future proof.

Should I go with for instance EIZO or Dell Ultraharp or Nec Spectraview? As the EIZO's are hardware color calibrated, do I still have use for the colormunki?

Dell ultrasharps are awesome. Tonnes of features and lots of colour options for a very reasonable price. Also tv inputs, usb ports, card readers and other such useful things built in.

I can get both of those for about my budget. But I'm wondering, going from 2x24"+1x34" to 2x27" I'm giving up some screen real estate. Maybe I should consider 3x24 inch like the U2414H.

I've been thinking and I might go for 2 x 29 inch widescreen monitors:

I don't think the ultrawidescreen is that nice, it doesn't have enough height. 2 27 inches will do. But I'm still doubting why I should take Dell Ultrasharp, they have the same specs as other monitors apart from like a gazillion USB ports.

I would go for the Dell also
Although not 27" or 29", I'm loving my 2 X 24". If I had the extra cash I would go for 2 X 29" or even 3 X 29"

I've just had good experience with them at home and in work, and they fulfil your criteria of good colour and adjustable height, I've found them to be quite cheap for the spec of the panels too.

The only thing stopping me right now is the future, mainly doubting to invest in 4K, but for now it's not really supported by a lot of things;...

Waiting desperately on AD to release 4K version of max so we can upgrade to 4k monitors. Until then standard dell 30s for me.

I would prefer to buy 2 30 inch IPS monitors with 16:9 or 16:10 ratio but can't find anything cheap :/

In the UK we have PCBuyit. They're selling refurbished Dells with full warranty. I've been buying those for years. Sometimes the screens have minor faults like the back panel being a bit loose but the screens are fine. Can be a lot cheaper.

I can't find an alternative in Belgium for this. Guess it's going to be 27 inch then. The 30 inch ultrasharp costs 1500$, Don't really get it 3 inches more and 3 times the price. That's quite insane.

I'm in the process of buying 2 new monitors for image manipulation as my old Eizos are worn out. The screens barely reach 90 cd/m² brightness now after calibration. My budget is $1300-1400 for each. For size I'm thinking 24-27 inches. The monitors are at about an arm's length from me so I don't think I'll need larger. Important point - they should have no color tints and brightness uniformity should be very good across the whole panel. I don't want green/purple casts and uneven brightness in the corners.

So what should I go with? I am leaning towards Eizo's because of the quality and 5 year warranty but the only decent one that falls in this budget is the CS2420. Anyone having experience with this model? What else can you recommend me for this money ($1300-1400)? What about the CX241? It seems to be discontinued but I still find them available in some stores. Is it worth it over the CS2420 or others? It looks kind of ugly and bulky, though . If there's a good reason to choose it instead of others I might swallow the ugly looks. The CG2420 is a bit out of my budget but I see it has true blacks unlike CS2420 which are a bit washed out. Does it worth it the almost double price over CS2420? And last question, do I really need 4K? I read that text and other elements become very small on the screen.

How important is colour? If you have a calibrator you can get the cheap korean panels on ebay to work wonders. I got a wasabi mango 43inch 4k monitor with freesync for $1k. Bargain, an actual monitor and not a TV and it looks good enough. I think it is only like 97% gamute compared to 99% for a Dell but ... none of my clients even know what a color calibration is anyway.
