  • failed server node

    Hi everyone,

Hoping some one can help out. I got this dell c6100 xs23-ty3 server. Its a 2u 4 node server. Was running fine, but now one of the nodes shutoff. I can't power it back on immediately after it shuts off, but if I wait for a bit I can power it up and it starts to boot but then shuts off again. No errors or messages. You could think it was the psu but the issue is there is 2 nodes on one psu, and the second node runs fine.

Any ideas? I've never dealt with server fails of this nature. Obviously I spoke to dell but its out of warranty so they won't support it.

Heat issue? If it starts again after sitting...it kind of sounds like a heat problem...check the CPU heatsink?

yeah it probably is. I was mocking around with bios and set the fans to be os controlled. But why did it run for 48 hours straight under load before ? it shoulda capped out quickly. Anyway I powered it on again and its running - but probably not for long
