  • Alembic in RT GPU Standalone

    Hiya,
running RT for quick previs (fantastic, TBH, it looks like we'll be using it for production). a couple of quick questions:

    1) Alembic files don't render in RT Standalone. They do, however, if the scene is split into files per frame (but jeez it takes a while to write 15gb of frames)
is this a known issue or is there a fix ?

    2) Instanced particles don't render in RT no matter what. Again, known issue/Fix ?

Hm, actually both of these should be working fine. If they don't, can you provide a scene to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can find and fix issues?

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Hi and thank you (as always) for the quick response.

I can't send the scene because:
      A) It's enormous - the alembic 1.2 gb alone
      B) You would see it was MY mistake. The alembic files work great in RT (I had a legacy pre-render mel from an old scene)

Having said that, I still can't see how instanced particles can be rendered in RT? (GPU or CPU). I've attached the simplest of scenes here

On a positive note: With the alembic files rendering as intended (and material overrides working fully, god I love VRay RT!)
We're going to be using RT GPU for full production. The frames are rendering in 6 minutes as opposed to 3+ hrs

Hi and thanks for the update about point one.

        Regarding :

It should work fine when render with RT via V-Ray Standalone, but not when render in Maya GUI with IPR. We still have some work to do in order to get the Instancer to update interactively between the frames.

I suppose that you are rendering this scene in Maya GUI ? The original report was for V-Ray Standalone.

That's completely right, I was testing functionality in Maya GUI (and apologies for the confusion with standalone).
Thank you for the clarity - that was the fix I was looking for

Ohh! now I'm curious about DistanceTex, Clipper, RndEgdes in standalone (boy am I greedy...)
