  • external eGPU solutions?

Using a laptop for most of work these days (macbook pro running windows7) Does anyone have any experience with an external GPU solution? I'm interested in using it with RT. Also, can you not save frames rendered with RT? Is that even an option?

Best solution would be to build a GPU node and DR to that node while working
So a computer designer to hanle one or multiple GPU.
Yes yo can save frames with GPU, just need to assign RT as your production renderer or you can also use a script that saves out the frames of activeshade, but RT as production render is way easier to use and reliable.
It work with any render manager software as backburner so send animation to the node is really easy while you work on your workstation.

    Hope this make sense

I was looking for external gpu for my laptop as well, if you look on youtube there are a few, but I think you also need external power supply to provide enough juice for it.... so its a lot hardware just for 1 gpu. I also found this one, I think they have psu built in or use some external break, but I don't think its capable of running gpus over 200w, so something like gtx970, 980 will do okay, but not titan or gtx980i. https://bizon-tech.com/

I just check their site again, looks like now they have 200w-300w versions, so I guess you can run GTX980Ti or even Titan in it.

Those look cool. Only one card is supported however. I'd like to get one with some more room for the future. Check this one out: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpressse2.html

Yep, but still 450$ so maybe ok if you want to add only 1 GPU, but if you want more, it would quickly way more expensive than building a small GPU node
