Hi. I'm building a new dual xeon workstation, and was planing on getting 2 1080 ti cards in it. I would go with 4 GPUs, but in the planned scenario it would be quite an overkill to house everything in one single machine.
Something that crossed my mind was an additional quad GPU render node. I'm still doing 99% CPU renderings and already own an additional 6 dual xeon render nodes. What bothers me is the eventual latency of the render node. Does anybody have any experience with a 10Gbe connection? I can imagine having a direct connection between the computers via optics and using a super fast m.2 ssd should in theory result in a throghoutput almost equal to having the GPUs in the same system?
