  • Low performance with GTX-1080 Ti card

Rendering time was pretty much the same as the GTX-980 Ti
    3ds Max 2018
    V-Ray 3.6

Do not set max sample level to 0. It oversamples often and the sampler can behave in a various non-nice ways. We print warning about that in the log. Set it to 4-5k for example, increase if the renders need to be more clean. This might help with the test as well. Also, I am not sure if this time does not include kernel builds, etc (best to compare the RT Frame Time from the V-Ray log).

      Hi Blago,

When testing, I often need to stop renders at a certain noise threshold. If don't keep Paths Per Pixel (what you are calling samples here I suspect) at zero, the rendering just keeps on going past the noise level...is this expected? If so, how do we get the renderer to stop at a certain noise level?

Yes, this is expected. It actually stops at the desired noise level (log can be a bit confusing). Keeping the max sample level at zero will cause longer than needed render times.

I'm still not exactly clear on what you are saying Blago, but I hear you and will try to understand.

I will be testing rendering times with the PPP at zero and greater than zero to get a feel for what is going on...

          Thanks,
