  • Will V-Ray recognise an eGPU?

I have a couple of GPU's just sitting here and no room in my PC case to fit them. I am looking for a cheap and simple way to get them added to the mix to max out GPU rendering. I have been looking into eGPU and wondered if anyone has successfully got this to work with V-Ray and if there are any issues as I believe they are connected via USB-C? Looking at some of the external houses available, many of them designed for laptops and only support certain makes and models. So curious to know if anyone recommends a works for all solution too.

    Thanks,

We have recently tried the BizonBOX on macOS. There are other options as well, like AKiTiO for example, but we haven't tested that.
Using external box with macOS Sierra is not very straight forward, since it is not officialy supported. This is OS thing though, not V-Ray.
Once you set it up and the OS sees it, it works great. The GPU was performing like a normal desktop one.

One of the major features in macOS High Sierra will be official support for external GPU boxes, so I hope it will get easier with that.

With you asking in the 3ds Max forum, I assume you want to know whats the case with Windows. We haven't tested it, but I believe that once the Windows sees the GPUs, there will be no issues with V-Ray GPU using them.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I think I will just bite the bullet and get an enclosure to see if it works.
