Yeah, my 5960x was benchmarking at somewhere around 1m 35s, so to go from that to 32s...... but.... you then get used to the speeds of the 7980 and then the 5960x seems like a slouch....

It's a tough call trying to decide which machine to make your 'main' workstation while you work and render at the same time. I don't do enough all-day rendering to warrant making the i9 the slave whilst making the i7 the main pc. And then again, when I use the i9 as the main machine, having the i7 as the slave makes not much difference to the render times as the i9 is just so much faster......

What'd really be ideal is having two 7980xe's ))

      Hi Jez,

Just wondering since I am also looking for a new WS: since 90% of my scenes go beyond 20GB RAM, I wonder what's the use for GPU rendering these days. Since I started working with high res HDRI's, high poly libraries and real displacement textures, it is nearly impossible to get a decent RAM use for GPUs. There are a lot of cases 64GB don;t cut it anymore.
Of course you can use GPU's for fast interactive testing on parts of scenes or single objects, but then again IPR on fast CPUs is more than enough for that too. And I always have to "convert" the final scene for CPU rendering anyway.
