  • Still necessary to use a GPU for viewport in Vray RT?

Hi everyone, I am building a new main workstation and wanted to know if there are still issues with the viewport when using all GPUs for rendering/active shade. I have always been a CPU guy and am new to GPU rendering.

My specs are 7980xe and 2 x 1080 ti. I've heard that some people use one card for the viewport and one for the rendering, but is that still necessary? Is Vray Next a little friendlier in that regard? Feel kinda bad spending $1300 on a second 1080 ti when I could have just gotten an old 980 for the viewport haha

    Thanks for the insight.

Usually we do recommend having dedicate (small, cheap, even integrated) GPU for display.
If you don?t have such small one, try it as-is. If it is bad, try the ?low GPU thread priority? option.

    Best,

I use all my 1080 ti's for RT and I'm very happy working that way with GPU low thread priority activated.
