  • Max 2017 Viewport issue - repeating lines - complete garbafe - 1080ti founders

I'm regularly experiencing this graphics problem (see attached image). Occasionally my scene will crash shortly afterwards (this may be a red herring).

    - Most of the time I can save the scene (or keep working if I really want to and don't need the viewport) and after restarting the issue is fixed.
    - Most of the time the viewport clipping slider also repeats when I try to move it.
    - Once I kept the scene open and eventually it improved.

I've recently began using Corona (for three months) - I don't recall ever experiencing this before, however I opened an old vray scene as a test and I had the same issue. (Perhaps because a driver had already crashed or something as I didn't reboot - I'm adding this note in case it seems relevant).

Sometimes the problem will occur immediately after an autosave.

I'd buy a P5000 if there if I knew for sure it would not have the same problems.

I lost some much money running MAX 2017. My productivity dropped 50%, easy! MAX 2018 claimed to have fixed 800+ bugs that were found in MAX 2017. I am not sure if those bug fixes made it back to MAX 2017 in the form of a service pack or not. Run, don't walk from MAX 2017!

Did you experience this specific problem and did you move from 17-18? I'm mid flow through a project so am reluctant to go to 2018 yet. It's doable though.

I had EXACTLY the same problems with Max 2017. Bobby summed it up perfectly. Probably the worst version of Max in recent years.

Hmm interesting, guess I'll take the plunge - it's funny how I'll talk to autodesk and they suggest that these problems are only happening to me. Were your other issues related to stability? I have some scenes that work awesomely and others that tend to crash despite how tidy I am.

Anything I should know about 2018?

            And thanks for the info.

yeah autodesks testing department often makes it feel like its just you with the problem...maya 2017 was equally a bag of pants..and their response to me was that they had never had a crash with it...

Might be worth jumping right to 2019

Because it is out and you are contemplating the migration anyway. So far, unless the adoption rate of 2019 is really low, I haven't heard many complaints and some are appreciating some of the new things.

Fair enough - I've already gone with 18 so will run with that for a while - thanks for the info though.

Without a doubt 2018 is way better than 2017. Zero issues all day.

Day three on 2018 and I have another viewport issue.

I'll take a screen grab next time, but it's happened three times today. It's like half of the scene objects change to wireframe mode, or dissapear completely. I've observed this in Standard shading mode. I can change to different shading modes which enables me to navigate but it's not a viable solution when I need to see the textures in the VP. The problems seem to be when trying to show textures in the viewport. The problems are also intermittent.

                            Any thoughts on this?

Do you have all the service packs installed? Without them, 2018 is almost as bad as 2017.
