Possible to measure distances in a photo?

Typically I'm doing modeling from cad, elevations, etc with dimensions. In this case I need to build a space in 3d from photos. Is there a way to measure a distance if you don't know a single measurement? I know this sounds like a rookie question from someone who's done archviz for a while, but I've honestly never had the need (or I've always had the dimensions).

Assume the seat cushions are 425-450mm off the floor. from that you can figure out the height of the wood trim / ceiling, wall width etc.
