Alienware for a 3D Workstation

What your thoughts on Alienware for a 3D Workstation. Seems to me that it would be comparable to a dell or hp etc....etc....?

Laptop or desktop?
What kind of specs will you get?
Desktop wise, I don't like their products and they are very overpriced. Building something yourself or having someone to build it for you will be way cheaper
if you want something prebuilt and don't mind paying a little extra, there are better options depending on what you want to get.

Alienware is Dell, so way overpriced

I use Alienware laptops as the main mobile workstation (3rd laptop) and they are very powerful, the ventilation is great as well as the screen. But I wouldn't buy a desktop since you can build one with the same or better specs for cheap.
