Please help. A friend of mine is looking to assemble a new computer for 3D. He mentioned that he has up to $2000 US to spend on a machine. I recommended checking out www.pricewatch.com to assmble one - the only problem is that I am completely lost since I lasted assembled my own computer.

So my question is, if you had to assemble a great workstation with $2000 US, what would you buy from www.pricewatch.com or www.newegg.com ?

I just had a look over at www.boxxtech.com and they have a couple animation systems in either AMD or Intel that are within or close to your buddies price range. I recomend that he have a serious look at Boxxtech. And the likes of newegg wont be able to compete service wise

Boxxtech is great, the support is wonderfull, the machines are incredible.

Unfortuneately the pricing isn't that great (better support usually means more expensive). They're better than comperable machines from big vendors, but nowhere near the cost of building it yourself.

You'd be really hard pressed to get a Boxx at under $2k, and it deffinately wouldn't be as fast as a machine you could build yourself at that price.

On the otherhand, time is money, so when you factor in all your time spent building, configuring, supporting the machine, the Boxx is cheaper for "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO).

Actually I was realy surprised at the cost of the animation boxes a few were just under $2k.

I agree about Boxx. I have 2 of them and nothing has ever failed on it.
