  • Looking for 1991 Volvo 740

Hey guys. We need a hires model of 1991 volvo 740 to be used in the feature film. Before going ahead and modeling it, I wanto to see if there is anyone out there who might know where to buy one. Nothing on turbosquid - I already looked.
    Thanks.

One of the better resources for cars that Ive found is http://www.3d02.com I havnt bought anything from them but the models seem to be priced ok for the high resolution meshes they have.

Do you at least have blueprints or good reference photos?

juju we will go for extensive shoot of it...but in a few weeks. The car is only in one or two shots and it gets fliped over so we need the under belly aswell. But you know I was hoping to go cheap and fast :P

i remember buying a bmw that i specifically needed for an underside shot and the images on turbosquid looked awsome of it. underside and all. you can believe my shock when i bought it and found the underside was only a photo on a flat underside. i had to go and model the underside after that. i still use the bmw in most of my work though. i love that model.

                Morbid,

you should use syntheyes to pull 3d points of the car.....i do this all the time here. i basically just put markers all over the car and then take digital photos...then manually track it and export it to max. then its just polymodeling....connecting the dots and adding detail.

or if you want it done really fast....call around to see if anyone in your area has reflectorless total stations. we have four here but i'm on the other side of the country. this will also give you a point cloud to work with....and its pretty fast too. i did a sebring convertible with the total station not too long ago.....about five hundred points in about 2.5 hrs.

that was overkill though.....you don't usually need that many points to model a vehicle.....mine was for litigation so it had to be that detailed.

let me know if you need more clarification.....we might even be able to shoot it for you....then leave the modeling up to you guys.

Let me know what ya think.

A reflectorless total station is a surveying machine that is capable of recording 3d points without another guy holding a prism/reflector in front of the point that you want to shoot. Its like the old systems...the ones that you see the guys on the road with the flourescent jackets using...except that it only takes one guy....and the laser will bounce off most surfaces.

Check this out if you need more clarification.
