  • Max / AutoCAD import question - how can I move AutoCAD splines (all on different AutoCAD layers) to just one 3DS Max Layer while keeping their original AutoCAD line colours ?

I don't very often work with AutoCAD files, but when I do I always hit this problem, so it'd be great to solve it !

When I import an AutoCAD drawing into 3DS Max (eg plans and elevations of a house), the 3DS Max Layer Explorer will show me many AutoCAD layers which is messy and what I want to tidy up by putting each AutoCAD elevation onto ONE 3DS Max Layer (so Left/Right/Front/Back etc) so I can conveniently switch them on / off etc.

The issue is that when I try to tidy things up, by selecting those AutoCAD spline objects and moving them to their own single 3ds Max layer, Max also changes their colour to just 1 colour as well. I’d prefer them to keep their unique original colours.

Can someone please tell me how to achieve this - I've looked at all the obvious areas I can think of, but so far, this is still a mystery to me !

    Many thanks.
    Jez
