  • Wood Texture

Got a long run of this I need to texture maybe 8' wide by 20' tall - anyone know of a good texture source for something like this?

If you have good single textures of wood you need - you can render texture with RailClone. It has the herringbone floor preset. You apply that single plank texture to that RC and render from top view all the maps.
    Available for remote work.

That's not herringbone? It's quilted maple. It requires the use of ansiotropic maps, it's got some insanely complicated highlight shifting going on. I've never seen a good set of textures for it.
      It looks like this -

      It is expensive.

i think there is one on vrayscans.
edit: there isnt. closest is lacewood which doesnt have the same scale and size of the bubbles. Maybe they'd be able to source some and scan it if you reach out?

Wow that video example is insane. My last bass guitar was similar quilted maple and gorgeous - but nothing like that extreme
Anyway, my only thought was to model some geometry that, with an appropriate shader, would mimic the effect. Off head-top maybe cloth could help with the structure, or simply a noised wave...
I may try this weekend and re-post if I have any success.

Would make a good procedural material challenge...
cant remember the forum that was doing some a while ago, I think it was a forum started just for shader challenges? I remember they had a snow one.

            Are you talking about shaders.xyz?
They have been a little quiet lately.

I have the feeling this can be done without specific modelling but purely with a somewhat complicated material.
Would love to try this out if ever have time... Just the "shape" of the wood pattern is very specific, no? Hard to come by it seems...

So a quick play with this got me this result which may or may not be acceptable.

interesting, though not as vibrant as I expected.
could you show other angles too so we can see it behave to light?
and this is actual cloth geometry?

Yeah it's missing a certain 'sheen" but it really was just a quick attempt.
It's just a plane with a wave mod and a falloff reflection.
I meant to recreate without geometry but
                  Had games to play

                    Lol the games!
anyway, the sheen is somewhat there (although it lacks some punch) but that depends on the angle of reflection. So other angels should look different..

Amazing material! Well the screenshot provided by TS looks like a herringbone, but if it should look like the video above - that's a totally different thing! Looks like holographic effect
