This happens only legacy Tab UI Which is all renderer's UI and Common and Render Element tab.
ART and Arnold UI have been Qt from the beginng.
Yes, max team need to take care Common and Render Element tab.
But, each renderer dev also need to convert UI to Qt eventually.

AlexP Yes, I have the same issue with Max vaporizing when opening render settings. This didn't happen with Max 2020.1.

I've been using 2020 since May and have had disappointing reliability. Overall performance seems fine, but stability is not so good. I even have fresh install of Win10 Pro and Max 2020.2 and still have stability issues with Max.

The updated SketchUp importer is great in respect to being able to import current versions of SketchUp files, but not happy at all that I've lost the ability to select a specific folder for the imported SketchUp textures. And as far as I can tell linework is not imported. A lot of times I have imported Acad files in the SketchUp scene that I'd like to be imported with the rest of the geometry. One step forward, two steps back.

I'm going to park 2020 for the time being and roll back to 2018. Which for me was more stable than 2019 and 2020. I so love paying subscription fees for beta software.

That isn't encouraging. I just had a ZOOM meeting and MAX froze three times and I had to crash it and relaunch each time to get through the meeting. It is embarrassing as if I am using some freeware or something. I was hoping 2020 was more stable. It is one thing wasting my time with the 'not responding' garbage, but when it is in front of clients, that is another thing.

Any hint about when it is unstable? certain task? Any repro steps?

For me, that is the frustrating part. I can be working along, picking things and everything is fine. I can pick the same thing again and MAX will go into 'not responding'. I can be panning and zooming, without a problem and then all of a sudden, 'not responding'. I was encouraged awhile back when an AD guy said that the 'not responding' is the most mentioned issue with MAX. I was encouraged because at least they acknowledged it and I was hoping they would fix it.

gandhics For me 2020.2 vaporized when I would open or close render settings. Usually when closing, but sometimes when opening. Other than that 2020.2 was mostly okay. But not being able to access render settings was deal breaker.

                  VRay NExt or 3,6?
Is it happening only for 2020.2? 2020.1 was OK?

So I assumed it was a problem with max - but downloaded the latest Vray 3.7 again and reinstalled - now works fine.

                        Hello,

For anyone having problems with Max 2020.2 and V-Ray 3.7 - download V-Ray again and reinstall. We've fixed an issue (that started happening with Max 2020.1) in 3.7 a few weeks ago.

                        Best regards,
                        Yavor

                            Good.
So, it was 2020 + 3.7 combo issue.
No wonder I could not see the issue.
                            I'm on NEXT.

I confirm 3ds Max 2020.2 + V-Ray 3.7 crashes 80% of the times when I try opening or closing the render settings window. I am reverting back to 2018 as well..

Are you getting crashes after downloading V-Ray 3.7 from our site and reinstalling ? You need V-Ray 3.70.01 for 3ds Max 2020 released on Aug 13, 2019.
