  • 3D content web viewer

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for software/plugins to display a 3d model on the web, much like you see on SketchFab for example.
Most plugins I can find use subscrptions and they handle the hosting of the model. I would much rather pay once for the software/plugin and host the model on our own webserver.

Anyone has some idea's? Or if you do have experience (good or bad) with an online platform, let me know!

    Thanks!

Unity can output webGL and is free If you make less than 100k a year. Might be too expensive if you make more than 100k though. Unreal should be also capable. Don't know much about the pricing of unreal though.
German guy, sorry for my English.

Thank you for your quick reply Ihno. I've should have mentioned we work with 3ds Max so we are limted to the export formats from Max.

Unity and unreal can import many formats. Including FBX f.e.

I'm looking for exactly the same, so I'm very interested to the answer here - SketchFab subscriptions are simply too expensive for some small businesses i.e. €99 a month.......

          Update......

What about Marmoset Toolbag ? That seems to have WebGL creation abilities

Good call, will have a look later today. I've also found Verge3D, a 3dsMax plgin to export to WebGL: https://www.soft8soft.com/3ds-max-to-webgl-guide/

Only thing about Marmoset is that it doesn't seem possible to remove their pesky buttons (in the top right corner of the viewer) - that may be a deal-breaker for my client.

Otherwise, it's a brilliant bit of kit that would do all that we need it to (as per SketchFab, only without the €99 a month fee......)

Shame that the webpage you linked has half of its images missing...... (told them, they're onto it).

Anyway, I think Verge3D is the better option (though a steeper learning curve).

I think Blender has quite good WebGL implementation. Of course you have to know Blender... But yes, Unreal and Unity are the best choices here. Also, I've seen Unreal can stream content now, making high quality projects being useable in browser.

JezUK It was a long time ago, but just wondered how you got on with Verge 3D, or if you found a viable alternative? Cheers.
