2019 Marketing Excellence Award

A local design/build firm just announced an award for the 2019 Marketing Excellence award... hu? I mean, it isn't bad, but it does look like a video created in the early '90s, doesn't it? I actually live off this lake, so it is close to home.

Not to mock anybody's work, but this is the state of our industry in the states, for the most part. These real-time render engines in the wrong hands just mean they can produce bad work faster. This one is from the largest local design/build firm using Revit and Enscape. I actually lost this project because the resort owner told me that I was a lot higher than the architect, who promises to provide state of the art images included in their design fee. The resort owner contacted me earlier this week about their next project. This project went way over budget, so they can't fix what they have now.

I have to say tho, having recently quoted for animation, which I havent had to do yet....man its expensive, really moving to unreal or something makes a lot of sense. Even working out the costs using chaos cloud was crazy pricing. 10min/frame = 1 credit. 30secs = $900 roughly and thats at 30fps....unless im getting my maths wrong...thats a bit steep.

those animations were done in Lumion..Bad quality and maybe they used an old version of it.

These guys also use Lumion for marketing videos but in a much better way.

Yeah, that is impressive. It goes to show you that the software is just a tool.

The software is just a tool. I would love to see Choas's real-time engine. When is that coming out?

yeah obviously you can make good and bad stuff with any tool, my point was more the price of rendering anims the traditional way and clients reaction to that.

I agree... I have been telling people $400 per second. An animation gone wrong can sink you, so I am cautious.

Maybe $100 per second... I don't have many ask. The last one, which was earlier this year, was $100 per second.

The only good work I have been seeing are these personal project from hobbyists and they spend months on the images. It seems that in the real world, people are okay with these poorly done animations done in their native design software.
