  • Which monitor (s) are you using?

    Hey guys,
Planning to change my monitor. I am going to use only for 3d and design purpose. (No gaming)
Already using Apple Cinema Displays. I am very happy with them as they offer great genuine colors with wide gamma range but they are pretty old and having big proplems with the pins on adapter.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

Eizo cg318's at work. They are nice, but probably to pricey for a home monitor, considering you'd more than likely want 2 of them, hah

I purchased the Benq 32" PD3200U a few months ago and like it very much. It's a 4K monitor so more expensive then the 2K PD3200Q. I would think you would want the 4K if getting a 32" monitor but individual needs and etc of course vary.

My next choice was a similar spec Dell. I cost more but had Adobe RGB color display mode. The Benq does not have that capability, but working in the Adobe RGB color space is a bit of a rabbit hole with gotchas and "it's not a perfect world" type issues. So.. decided I did not need to display the Adobe RGB color space and saved some coin.

Hi, since one year I am using Benq BL 3201PT "designer" monitor and I love it! It is UHD 32 inches 100% sRGB and around 75% adobe RGB if I remember well so colors are very accurate. The screen coating is like semi matte. It has the external corder controller to quickly switch between screen modes - CAD mode for modeling is pretty neat and I also use lowBlue light mode a lot. It is able to automatically detect if you are in front of it can turn itself on and off. Btw I was lucky enough to get the second one in pretty much brand new condition for just 400€ which is not much considering the 1000€ release price. I believe the newer model is cheaper and costs about 750€ on Amazon.

                  Hi again,
                  Tthanks for replies.

I am wondering if menus and dialogs become too small in 4k.

I am working on 3 monitors at the moment. Wondering if it is better to have a 4k or to buy a fuul hd and keep 3 monitor setup- what do you think?

I was using two Dell 20" FP monitors until this summer when I switched to the 32" 4K monitor. There is definitely a difference in how you will arrange your screen workspace - tool pallets, frame buffer, etc. I'm getting used to that and it is ok for me so far. In my experience, the menus and dialogs on modern software, like 3ds MAX and Photoshop, Firefox do not become too small. I think these programs have built in compatibility with newer 4K monitors. With older less current programs that is a minor issue.

I like having just one monitor. When I had two, trying to calibrate both to appear exactly the same never worked for me. I'm trying to reduce the number of devices I have plugged in general

Sure - here is a screen grab. It's full 4K resolution. This is how I set up my workspace, there may be other/better configurations.

I agree with Mark, big uhd screen gives you a lot of space to play around with your workspace. For me it goes like this:
                          Pros:
                          • 4x times more pixels on the screen can give you that extra precision when modeling or pixel perfect post
                          • Working inside a huge viewport is so neat! It might sound funny but it really helps you to immerse yourself in the project - giving the feeling of control
                          • From every day examples, I am able to scale my framebuffer/ maya hypershade (material editor) / UV editor - etc etc. to almost full hd size and place it one of the viewports.
                          • This size monitor can easily substitute your TV

                          Cons:
•Requires a bit more power - I have mine plugged to laptop with gtx 1060 and it can sometimes struggle to keep the viewport smooth
                          • Can be really heavy, my Benq weights 17kg (!) so if you ever want to mount it on the wall it is not easy to find strong a enough arm
•Scaling...not a huge issue anymore but you can still find yourself with your nose inside the screen if an app doesn't scale properly. I found Substance Painter to be the worst but that was 6 months ago so maybe they fixed it.
•Windows 10 scaling is still not ideal, I found 150% scaling to be alright but some stuff still looks blurry.

                          Good luck!

Pfff, peanuts! My old 24 inch Sony Trinitron grade A CRT (circa 2000) weighed over 100 lbs... Forget about finding a strong enough arm, you needed a strong enough desk

Hahaha! What a heavy cow it was for an 24 inch monitor, damn! But c'mon, 17kg for an LCD is still pretty heavy considering that the same size Dell weights like 6kg
