How much do you guys hold up production for information? I get such vague information you would thing, they thought I was a mind reader. Do you hold things up for the information you requested or do you forge ahead with what you have?

Here is what I got for steps and parking after waiting three weeks (yellow circle). I asked again and I got, "I have already provided you the information you requested, so I am not sure what more you need from me?" So, below is what I came up with, which the chances of being correct are slim. Would you charge for changes?

I would not be able to interpret anything from that yellow circled markup. Pathetic frickin joke to try to pass that of on you as direction that anyone could understand. Sheeeesh.

I have boilerplate in my agreement for service that list all the plans, materials info and etc I typically need. I have additional boilerplate wording in my agreement for service to the effect, “ if plans or info is missing or not provided I will use my own aesthetic and judgement. Revising any such elements may incur additional costs.”

I very seldom to never hold up production waiting for stuff.

My impression is most clients never read the agreement. I charge some for revisions some I do not. Never had a problem with charging for it when it seemed justified. Never not been paid. My clients may be of a different nature than yours. Most of my work is for people I know or were referred by someone I know. I only occasionally work with complete strangers.

    what you did looks great.

Someone who was rude or lame enough to claim that crummy and exceptionably vague circled markup was viable info......I would charge to revise for sure. And when you do you will likely get much more clear and understandable direction because they will be motivated to not have to pay for a third version to get it the way they want.

Somehow it feels better or maybe safer to vent on your clients versus mine.

Yeah, to be honest that is utter shit in terms of feedback.
So give them what you did and state that's the best interpretation based on the available and requested information, citing the 3 weeks wait for this inappropriate feedback. Any changes need proper information
and will be charged accordingly if they differ too largely from this interpretation.

Welcome to my World. I too have something in my contract about getting everything upfront and If I have to stop and wait, I might have to reschedule their project. They don't get that I might have their project scheduled for a day and it takes four when I have to stop, delete, model over and try again. The trial and error workflow get expensive and I should be the one carrying the cost.

I would send them what you did and not mention any of that other stuff. IF they say anything at all about the steps then tell them you did the best you could with the info provided. Happy to revise but of course will need to charge for time to do so. The tone and approach being that charging for the revisions is self evident and almost goes without saying, iYOU, unlike some, like to be clear up front. Ask for a clear description of what they want and tell them in advance what the cost range estimate is to revise it to the new configuration.

They will get that you will need to schedule the revision time and charge for it....if and only if you actually do so. I’m certain you know that, why not try it? Your seem to have more then enough work to allow you to be the one dictating the terms. Of course be generous and lean towards client satisfaction. One size will never fit all and each case is unique. This one seems clear. Charge for your time and tell them you may be able to get to it within the next week or two of receiving clear description of what is desired. PLUS, if more hardball is needed or there is a lack of trust or they are being disrespectful, you must receive full payment for all work done to date, per agreement, before any more work can be done.

I have a great admiration for your work and the business you have created. This client relation stuff is a consistent and recurring complaint that you post about. With all the other pro aspects of what you have accomplished certainly you can get to a point where you are effectively able to manage this aspect. You cannot control client behavior, you can only control how you react to it.

It is horrible notes, but looking at it briefly it seems as they want the stairs to be in the yellowed corner, which you have so not sure what else they want.

Yeah, they scribbled out the steps towards the house, which I already modeled and moved them down the drive, which she wants a parking spot. The problem is, it takes a second to scribble some lines and it can cause hours of work on our end. The part that gets me is if they do this 4-5 times, without any regard to my time; this is when I get mad.
