hehe....i agree...it looks like a real and crappy photograph.
for stills i see no reason to try something like that.
for film, getting close to camera features and limitations might be interesting, but maxwell obviously isn't useable for that.
Morbid, I would suggest looking around this forum and Evermotion then. Those renders don't even come close to the best that vray can do, imho.
Perhaps it's more of a matter of taste, but they don't do appeal to me at all. The only thing that looks real about the renders is that they do look like bad photographs. But is that a good thing?

you see NO reason....? what if, for example, you have a client that asks you to replicate the look of... flash photographs...?

Some clients might be stupid, but not THAT stupid.
wow....people calm down...i just thought these pics look good. Imho, a person had set a goal to replicate something in 3d and they succeeded. And, I dont see many if any interriors rendered with vray which have very convincing photorealistic quality.
Ill give it this much - it is a cool effect that would be nice to replicate. But I think it's one of those one-time interest deals that will get old on everyone - just as Maxwell noise is beginning to wear on me...
I agree with jujubee, its a flavour of the month thing, a sort of scaled down lens flare .
Its a very good reproduction of an average photo, if that is the aim of the job then top marks to the artist, however I think if you put those images against crisp Vray interior one the client would hands down go for the more clinical look. (We are talking interiors here) I was thinking of buying Maxwell at its pre-launch price but I'm just not convinced, I hate that bloddy noise, grand for certain things but it appears waaayyyy too often for my liking. Would also like to see how long for decent interior animation are taking.
Just my 1 cent (I can say that now cos we use euros)
