I've been using fR for more than 2 years, It's pretty good...St-1 is about 10x faster than st-0....the only problems are the support & Edwin.....now I'm using Vray and Maxwell, I'm very happy with them...Chaos should develop more plug-ins like Cebas does.
P.D. I bouhgt fR after see the Thomas suurland renderingsshow me the money!!

question. if its a PS filter. and your doing an animation. how do you batch process? am i right to think that in one folder you have the non-DOF renders as a tga sequence or whatever your preference. and in another is a sequence of DOF greyscale image? how do you tell PS to use GS001.tga on NODOF001.TGA ?

Hmmm. Guess its not intended to be recomposited for animations...
Btw, the steps I listed above works well with Adobe's 'Lens Filter' to achieve DOF - though it's probably not as comprehensive as Rosenman's plugin.

what im trying to figure out is how to batch process one set of images in 1 folder and have them affected by another set of images in another folder

Hey guys;
No, unfortunately, it's NOT compatible with After Effects - anymore, that is. Adobe did something to their SDK because the plugins USED to be compatible, now you can't even load them in AE. (I just found this out myself...)
This is definitely intended as a single image tool. Batch processing won't work, unless you want to painstakingly load every new Depth Map by hand (not good). It's too bad, I would have liked it to be used for animation, but we are limited by the compiler and by Adobe's plugin limitations.
We've also looked into various other filters (including Photoshop's) and tried as best we could to come out with superior results. I think the results, as shown in the gallery, show it's quite powerful I know PS never supported bokeh effects but my understanding is that they do now. Of course, the power of our filter is to use a Depth Map (which we are all familiar with) and I don't know if PS will let you do this. Also, you have full control over the aperture shape (ie. pentagonal-octagonal-circular, orientation, curvature, bokeh enhancement, edge artefact reduction, depth map generation, etc.)
A good way for anyone to test the plugin is to grab any of the images off the gallery and the corresponding Depth Map as well. Convert the Depth map to a BMP (since this is the only format supported at this time), and load it into the filter. Then you play with it and see what each feature does.
It's pretty powerful and obviously I have designed it so that I am pleased with the results, having worked (*strugged*) with DOF effects for years. I'd encourage anyone to play with the DEMO.
Finally, a tutorial has been asked for on several occasions so we are planning to produce one of those.
If you have any questions, just pm me.

No After effects support..
Sad to hear that, animation is where post DOF is needed. If I'm just doing a still I usually have plenty of time and renderpower to make real DOF.

They used to work in the old After Effects - if you have v4.1 or so it might still work but like I said, Adobe went ahead and changed something which now doesn't allow many 8bf plugins to work.
They also ran on Combustion and still might, but of course, the main feature of the plugin is the depth map so you wouldn't want to load a new one in every time.
At this time, DOF PRO is definitely meant as a still frame plugin, for post DOF. We're looking into seeing how we can make it animateable (if at all possible) for future releases. Even for single frames, it's a much faster alternative to true DOF if you don't have the time in your schedule. (This is the main reason it was developed).
Try out the demo as it will give you a fairly good example of how it works and of course, if you have any questions, go ahead and ask me.

-Richard

Thanks for the heads up - yeah, it has been doing very well - postings everywhere (cgchannel, cgnetworks, maxunderground, 3dtotal, 3dm3, 3dvf, CgArchitect, Deathfall, etc).
BTW, a new version will be out in a few days with a fully functional preview window, and we are working on animation support for Photoshop Batch Processing which should be out within several weeks.
Regards,
-Richard
