  • Motion Blur / DOF in post

I am going into a production where I will need to do depth of field and motion blur. We are going to get some new software to do them in post. Any suggestions - I automatically think of Combustion, I am an after effects user who has only played around with Combustion, but I have heard that Digital Fusion is also pretty good - any thought or suggestions on the matter ?

    Thanks

well, dof in post is yes...but you will need a plugin to do this, usually they work with zdepth passes. Standart tools as far as i know in combustion will not do you any good. For motion blur i'd recomend trying to use vray moblur as its pritty good. If you cant, rpf moblur can be one of the ways. Post process moblur usually is pain in the ass and never produces as good of the result as 3d moblur.

AE native bites for these effects. Combustion is a bit better but not perfect.
But there are plug-ins for doing this

      http://www.revisionfx.com/mblur.htm

Great price and works with video and 3d images.
      Go for the Pro version.

haven't sued it but have seen work done with it, very nice.
DOF, I use VRAY's when using VRAY or Video post if you don't need extreme
blurriness (And are NOT using VRAY...). Just remember to turn on "Affect Alpha" and many issues go away. CEBAS' looks good, but not for VRAY from what I have heard.
Two heads are better than one ...
....but some head is better than none.....

          Thanks Guys

Thanks for your help. At the moment I am leaning towards combustion - we have AE in house but the Z-depth extra from Combustion seems to work better. RPF can get a bit tricky and I don't really like the idea of learning a new app. but There are other things I think I will start taking advantage of if I get combustion - replacing textures add atmosphere's in post ect.

          Thanks Again
