  • Cintiq Pro with Substance Painter, any recommendations?

    Hi
Does anybody use a Wacom Cintiq Pro with Substance Painter?

    My questions:
    1. Size 16, 24 or 32?
    2. Touch makes sense for SPS?
    3. Use as 2nd monitor or just for painting? Main monitor is 32

    Hi,

    I use 16pro and 24pro.

If you are dreaming of working mobile and you want to take it with you on holiday buy something like Incase Icon backpack, that can fit big laptop and cintiq16pro you can't have better setup than that.
Although you will lean too much over it when working, feet on cintiq will give you angle of 20 degrees, way too low for any long work (no pain no gain) and wacom stand for 16in is ridiculous solution...
Also check compatibility of wacom 16pro with your WS hardware or laptops like Dell XPS, g5, g7 and others because you may end up using so too many cables and adapters if you lack proper usb-c support, it is very selective with usb-c.

24pro does not suffer from that issues.

If your usage is mainly tied to one location go with cintiq24 (non touch version of course) + flex arm. Basically second monitor usage.
It is made to be powered on every day, doesn't suffer from heat and compatibility issues. Color accuracy, pixel density and surface size is amazing.
24in has slightly better etched surface i guess because glass is thicker, there is no parallax (couple of pixels at the far corners) much better precision when compared to older cintiqs.
Difference in price between touch version and non touch version of 24 will buy you Wacom ergo arm (flex arm) it is must in my opinion. EK remote is also included and it is amazing for substance or any other software, you can streamline your work and make it more enjoyable.

Buying additional pen like 3d pen is also great investment. There are 2 pen holders on 24 screen itself (only one on 16), you can have additional brushes added to each separate pen so that can additionally streamline things.

Touch in general is gimmick, i mean there are some use for it but far from justifying price difference, totally not worth it for substance or any other SW i use.

I did try 32in... it is huge, it is more oriented towards people using their arm either from elbow or shoulder, great for drawing and animators, allowing for fast precise strokes because of it's size, you can also do it on 24in.
Unnecessary, again you won't make mistake if you like to draw, do concept art etc. Size is comparable to around 40in tv. and if you have cash go for it, you will get touch. You can either make stand for it or go for flex arm.
it is very massive so moving it around without arm is impossible, if you lack workspace that could be a problem. Aaron Blaise has great review regarding usage.

sorry for long post, i hope this answers some of it.
