For those with Laptops that wants an RTX 3090, looks like this eGPU will actually fit a 3090 (a 2 slot version at least)

The question is how much of that 3090 performance is lost via the eGPU?

Hmm, the 3090 not getting that great reviews. Seems to be a no-brainer to get two 3080's instead if one can fit them. I guess that excludes eGPUs.

3080's don't have nvlink, it wont benchmark in games well but it's 10gb vs 24gb - except the 3090 has nvlink so it's more like a max of 10gb vs up to 48gb. i think for our industry that's a pretty important distinction.

it'll also probably get faster with better drivers - the 3090 isn't even out yet, that benchmark shouldn't have been released.

Yes, very true, tremendous value in the memory itself, and nvlink solidifies it.

I think I mentally approached this from the OPs laptop perspective (I'm also considering a laptop), where you might have a 1080 with 8GB in your laptop and then an egpu at the office with lots more cores but still planning the scene for the same memory footprint.

3080 20Gb have already been announced (leaked) Wont be surprised if they have NV either.
