  • Maxwell Beta 1.2 comparisons!!

    http://www.maxwellrender.com/comparative.html

Seems like they have made some MAJOR improvements.
Certainly might start to become a thorn in vrays collective side.

i would say its actually worse with the new beta release a lot of bugs have been introduced and the speed gain is 'faked' in that its only the first few sampling levels that are faster. the higher you go the slower it will be compared to the alpha + plus they have introduced some sort of blur wich they claim to be a bug but more likely is a way to reduce noise.
This is only what i've read from the forum. I havent tested it yet myself as i find it totally useless for any work.

I wonder how they do his:

I always have problems with liquids turning out black when rendered in a darker environment.

In the small ammount of time I've messed around with the beta version I haven't seen any particular speed gains. Mind you I'm rendering architecture scenes not toilet rolls.

That water probably came from their own fluid sim system called RealFlow. Boy, if you thought at Maxwelll was slow, wait until you try their fluid sim... days, maybe weeks to do full hi density fuild sims. Nonetheless, RealFlow is probably the leading commerical fluid system out there.

hmmm... I wonder if Aura will do fluids beyond gas... if it will do liquids as well.

This makes me hope Aura will liquid, with the right shader maybe it could be water instead of clear jello like in realflow.

Realflow is a pain in the A**se

I have been working with Realflow for about 6 months and it really is a pain in the Ar*e. It is slow and unstable and the fact that you have to do the whole import/export thing drives me around the twist, especially when it comes to scale.
If somebody could up with a native 3dsmax liquid simulator - more advanced then 3D Glu - they would make me very happy and themselves very rich.

Maxwell renders look great - ( so to Final Render) but you won't find me dying to get a copy after my experiences with other Next Limit products -same goes for Cebas
