  • Sharing 3d assets?

    Hi -

Wanted to get opinions on sharing 3d models you've worked on. Is there a standard sharing practice, and if so, is there a way to figure out the cost?

I've always always handed over only renderings to clients. But recently I've been working in a design office and clients have asked for our 3d modeled exteriors/interiors, which then get handed over to marketing rendering studios. We might not push ours to marketing level but we spend a lot of time on the architectural details and have amassed some custom furniture pieces. I'm not sure if with Revit being a design standard that it might be more common acceptable to share 3d files.

I'm not sure if a flat fee could be determined every time an iteration is shared. Or a fraction of the time spent designing within the 3d space.

If it matters, I'm working with 3dsmax & Vray

    Thanks

    Hey
Usually, this is how I am doing it
I calculate the time I spent on the model, multiply by your hourly rate plus anything you bought additionally for it. Multiply by the "greed" factor and there you go.

1.) Collapse everything to a single mesh
2.) Apply default material to model
3.) Draw a penis in the viewport
      4.) Save file
      5.) Send to client

Haha rusteberg this is my usual method. Always feeling passive aggressive when handing over assets. Wasn't sure if times had changed

Each to their own, but I explicitly state that deliverables are image files (eg png / jpg etc).

That's the service being paid for and delivered.

If they say afterwards that they now want the 3D models and scene files as well, then feel free to give them your years of knowledge/expertise and skills on a plate for free.

(if they're prepared to accept an additional charge, then charge them whatever extra you're comfortable invoicing for).

          0.5x, 1.0x, 1.1x, 1.5x....
