  • orientation constraint following linked dummy.

ive got a nice suspension rig set up. the axle has the y rotation linked to the wheel hub, and the x rotation linked to the wishbone rotation dummy.. this works fine... however the moment i link the wishbone rotation dummy to follow something else, or add an orientation constraint to it, the axle no longer works.

any suggestions on how to get that dummy to follow another object and pass on its rotation to the axle on one axis? ideally i want that dummy to have a lookat constraint on it, then the axle to follow its x rotation.

    axle issue.zip

here is a test file to illustrate issue... the big dummy controls axle rotation, the smaller dummy controls axle angle.

if i try to link the small dummy to another object, assign a lookat constraint to it, or even group it with another object, it kills the angle control of the axle.

In place of an immediate solution (sorry, not got time today), take a look at this https://craftanimations.com/craft-director-studio/
It's excellent and I played with it years ago. They have a free week's test version so you could very likely simply pull it apart
to figure out the correct links. They use standard lookats etc., so I reckon it 'should' be fairly obvious...hopefully

thanks for the links... however my rig already works great, i just need to find a way to link that dummy to something, or assign a lookat to it, without breaking parameter wiring.

i did look at craft studio.. it does look cool, but ive already got mad car so i was planning on using my rig with that. however unless i can get that dummy to point at the wheel hub helper which madcar makes, as it goes up and down, im a bit stuck.
